NICE TO MEET YOU
My name is Linnéa Sonka, and I am a dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and dance teacher based in Stockholm. My work is grounded in streetdance with a particular focus on House, and I create politically and socially engaged art that examines structures of power, identity, and collective responsibility. Through movement, film, and visual composition, I seek to expose perspectives and experiences that are often overshadowed in public discourse.
For the past fourteen years, I have worked with human rights, a long-standing commitment that continues to shape the conceptual and emotional framework of my artistry. I create dance performances, installations, and dance films that explore the tensions and complexities embedded within contemporary social realities.
In addition to my work in dance, I have a strong background in film editing and graphic design. I am especially interested in the intersection of choreography, directing, and visual design—where movement and imagery merge into layered narrative forms. This interdisciplinary approach is central to how I develop and articulate my artistic ideas.
I currently hold a year-long residency at SITE, where I am developing Faultline, a dance film created together with thirteen male dancers. The work investigates how patriarchal structures and norms surrounding masculinity influence emotional life, relationships, and mental well-being, revealing both internal struggles and societal pressures.
I also run Kultiverse, a mobile pop-up cultural space that brings art and performance into unexpected environments. The initiative aims to broaden access to culture, support underrepresented art forms, and foster a more inclusive and dynamic cultural landscape.
At the moment I'm also working half time as a graphic designer at Fryshuset while also taking on freelance work. As you may have noticed in my portfolio, I have a deep love for all types of motion design, bold and impactful typography, typeface and pattern design, and vibrant, vivid colors. My creative energy is at its peak when I'm crafting with a distinct purpose—I love all forms of design and art that touch people on a deeper emotional level.
